Analyzing the potential of every member from The Shield!
At Survivor Series 2012, three former NXT-stars debuted on the main-roster after a thunderous attack on rising star Ryback. Their attack cost him the title, and helped Cm Punk expand his historical title-reign. Then at TLC the group know as The Shield defeated the tag team champions and Ryback in one of the best matches of 2012. The Shield kept gaining momentum with big wins both at Elimination Chamber and at Wrestlemania 29. And now Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose seams to be targeting the tag-team champions Team Hell No once again. The group has taken the WWE-universe with a shock, and many fans has considered this group as one of the strongest group in modern history. But what potential does the members of this group have as single competitors? Here is a breakdown and prediction for every member in this group:
1) Dean Ambrose
Just like Daniel Bryan, Cm Punk and Seth Rollins has done, Dean Ambrose made a name for himself in the independent circus. After an impressive run on the independent circus, Ambrose was signed to a developmental deal with the WWE. Ambrose made a quick impact when he debuted on FCW, where he started a long feud with his current team-partner Seth Rollins. Their feud has already been called "FCW's feud of the century". After a nice run in the developmental circus FCW, Ambrose went on to the main-roster, and debuted with Rollins and Reigns. Ambrose went right from FCW to the main-roster, and never had a run with NXT, unlike his partners.
Dean Ambrose is a tremendous in-ring competitor. But his controversial look, his great promo-skills and his passion for wrestling is the main reason I believe he can be a successful main-event player for WWE. Just like Cm Punk, Ambrose is not afraid to "speak his mind". Last year he and Mick Foley had a real-life beef with each other, which resulted with Ambrose being pushed back from the main-roster for a while. If he hadn't had this beef with Foley, I am sure that he would have debuted right after Wrestlemania 28. But Ambrose and Foley solved their problems later that year, which was a smart move from Ambrose. Because making real-life enemies so early in your career is not a smart move. But just like many before him, Ambrose is a man that understands the business. He is a "company" man, which means that he will do whatever he is told to do.
I think that Ambrose has the potential to become a top-heel for the WWE, and I am sure that he will have a successful run as a singles-competitor after The Shield splits up. He has the full package. A lot of charisma, great promo-skills and a good in-ring competitor. This man can truly become a top star for The WWE in the future.
2) Seth Rollins
Just like Dean Ambrose did, Seth Rollins made a name for himself in the independent circus. Rollins is without a doubt one of the best in-ring competitors in the world. Many people calls him the new "Cm Punk", because of their similar look and move-set. After he signed a developmental deal with WWE, Rollins had one of the most successful runs in the history of FCW. As mentioned before he had an epic feud with Dean Ambrose, which helped him make a name for himself. After a great run with FCW, Rollins was moved up to NXT, where he also made a lot of successes. He was crowned the first NXT champion after defeating Jinder Mahal. He defended the title for a long time, but lost it short after his debut on the main-roster.
Unlike Cm Punk and Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins has a lot to prove on the mic. He has shown us that he is a tremendous in-ring competitor, but he still has a lot to prove on the mic. I think if Rollins find his "charisma" (just like Daniel Bryan did with the Yes/No chants), he can become a top-player for the WWE. Rollins reminds me of Mick Foley in one way. Because if Vince tells Rollins to go out there and take a nasty bump, he will do it without a regret. This is the kind of guy Rollins is, which makes me believe that he could be a great player for WWE.
I think in the future Seth Rollins will work best as a babyface. He is the type of guy that fans can get behind, and he already has a huge fan-base from his runs in FCW and NXT. If we give him some time to find his charisma, and a character he can relay himself to, this man could truly be a top-player for the WWE.
3) Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns was a former football player, who decided that he wanted to follow in his family's footstep. He comes from a great Samoan-wrestling family, and he is often being called the new "Rock". Unlike his partners Rollins and Ambrose, Reigns is a powerhouse. He is the strength of The Shield, and is often the one who takes out the bigger opponents. In 2010 Reigns signed a developmental deal with the WWE. After a great run in FCW, he was moved up to NXT. His charisma and massive strength, combined with his great in-ring skills, was the main reason WWE wanted him in their main-roster.
Reigns is a different type of player than his team-partners. I truly have to say that he reminds me of The Rock. But just like Rollins, Reigns has a lot to prove on the mic. Everytime The Shield puts on a promo, Ambrose is usually the one who does the most talking. In the future I would love to see Reigns as a babyface, and not a heel. When The Shield splits up, I really hope that Reigns makes a babyface turn. He has already proven to me that he can be a top-star in the WWE. If they use him right in the future, I am sure that he will become one of the most popular babyfaces is recent history. His charisma and attitude just makes you fall for this guy. But I have to say that Reigns has a lot of preasure on himself. He is The Shield member that has most to prove though. Because his run in the developmental scene was not near as good as the runs Rollins and Ambrose had. Rollins and Reigns has proven that they belong in the main-event scene, can Reigns do the same when he goes on to become a single competitor? Only time will show!
